Rae Ellyn Russell Hughes' Obituary
Rae Ellyn Russell Hughes, long-time resident of Friendswood, passed away October 8 at the age of 80. Her life will be memorialized with a private graveside ceremony for family at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2022 at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
Rae Ellyn was born November 23, 1941 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Her parents moved to San Antonio before settling in Pasadena, Texas where she attended Pomeroy Elementary, Southmore Intermediate and graduated in 1959 from Pasadena HS where she was a member of the acapella choir and swim team, earning numerous awards in both activities. She also studied Medical Technology, Art and Design at Lamar University. Rae began a career as an Environmental Chemist, working for several Houston laboratories before retiring as Plant Chemist from AES Deepwater in Pasadena.
Rae Ellyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Ray Russell, Sr and Dorothy Elma Firth Russell; brother Ernest Ray Russell, Jr; grandson Griffin Jones; sisters Judith Jamison, Donna Kay Berger.
Survivors include: sister Cynthia Tatum and husband Joe Edd of Gatesville, TX; brother in law Larry Berger of Duncanville, TX; Children: Barrie Hughes Hogue and husband Randy of Friendswood, TX; Renee Sparkman Taylor and husband Ray of Belton, TX. She leaves a legacy of 5 grandchildren: Mary Hogue Stowe and husband Tyler of Los Angeles, CA, Margaret Hogue of Friendswood, TX, Reid Muse of Temple, TX, Elvis Jones of Belton, TX and Tessa Taylor of Belton, TX along with a wonderful multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews.
