Phyllis Amy Grace Arizmendi's Obituary
Phyllis Amy Grace Rivett Arizmendi passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on March 30, 2021 in Lake Jackson, TX. She was born on April 24, 1924 in Whitchurch H, Hampshire England to Walter and Alice Rivett. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, daughter and friend.
Phyllis met and married Al (Alonzo) Arizmendi during World War II in England. In 1947, Phyllis and her 1 year old daughter Nesta traveled from England to New York on the SS Washington. Then, they traveled by train from New York to Brownsville, TX. Oh, the stories she had. Phyllis was honored to receive her United States citizenship on May 20, 1961. She resided in Brownsville for 47 years before moving to Magnolia, TX in 1988 to be closer to family. In 1996 she moved to Pearland, TX and then to Clute, TX in 2016.
Phyllis’s family was her life. Her love for animals came in at a close second (with a special passion for elephants). She also loved the beach and would walk for hours if you let her. Another passion she had was for dancing. Whenever she heard music (even when using her walker) she would start dancing. In her spare time, she loved to crochet and crocheted blankets, stuffed animals, clothes, dollies and anything of the like for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Edward and Alice Grace Rivett, her husband of 56 years, Alonzo Cantu Arizmendi and her youngest daughter, Sharon Elaine Arizmendi.
Phyllis is survived by her brother, Gordon Rivett and sister Nesta Short who reside in England. She is also survived by her daughter Nesta Partin, son Adrian Arizmendi (Janice), and son Jeffrey Arizmendi. She has four grandchildren, Cari Kinnett, Aaron Arizmendi (Tammy), Robert Dampier (Tulisha), and Deborah Kopack (Kris). She has seven great grandchildren, Michael (Miranda), Aaron Kinnett, Sarah Kinnett, Austin Arizmendi, Andrew Arizmendi, Ava Arizmendi and Kolton Kopack along with one great great grandchild, Micah Kinnett. Phyllis has some special friends, Kim Hagan, Lisa Kyle, Adela Mendez, Monica Dominguez and Ana Flores.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Tracy Soileau, Susan Miller, Pat Lecompte, George Cantu, Kimberly Linton, Tracy Littleton, Chelsea Diaz and all the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lake Jackson for taking such loving care of Phyllis for the last two years. Also, a shout out to the Residents of Elmcroft that welcomed Phyllis and became part of her family sharing great times and making memories over the last two years.
