Norma Jean Strange's Obituary
After a very courageous battle with cancer, Norma Jean (Welford) Strange went home to heaven on December 21, 2020 at 2:39 am. Born in League City, Texas on March 27, 1934, Norma was the daughter of Ira “Jack” Evon Welford and Willie Pearl Strange Welford. She graduated from Milby High School in the class of 1952 with Journalism Honors and she was a member of the Volleyball Squad. She married Cecil Floyd Strange Jr. on June 8, 1957 at Park Place Methodist Church. Norma Jean went to work full time for Houston Bank and Trust in downtown Houston after graduation until she chose to become a full-time housewife after the birth of her third daughter in 1967.
Norma Jean enjoyed collecting new and antique dolls, frequenting antique shops, estate sales, garage sales, craft shows and trade shows. She enjoyed spending time with her friends going to different local events and “lunching” with her friends. She was an avid reader enjoying historical romances. Her favorite colors were blue and yellow; her favorite flower was the Texas Yellow Rose.
Norma Jean was very proud of her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always looked forward to birthday and holiday celebrations when the whole gang would gather and celebrate. She was dearly loved by all.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ira “Jack” and Willie Pearl Welford; her great granddaughter Sierra Grace Herod and great grandson Matthew Tripp Casto; and her sister, Nelda Joyce Beadle.
Norma Jean is survived by her husband of 63 years, Cecil Floyd Strange, Jr. and their children, Cecelia Ganje and husband Michael, of Houston, Carol Phares, of Pasadena, and Sabrina Herod and husband Roy, of LaPorte; grandchildren Kiya Phares, Michael Phares and wife Candice, Matthew Phares and wife Ashley, Roy Herod Jr. and wife Crystal, Kindra Green and husband Robert, Nathan Herod, and Caleb Herod; and 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation and services will be held at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, TX. 77581, 281-509-9228. Visitation is on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, from 5 - 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 10 am in the Chapel at South Park. COVID guidelines will be observed. Masks are required.
