Ms. Nora Suzette Reese Gourrier's Obituary
Our Lord provides us with many blessings and gifts. He giveth and taketh away. Beginning on March 10, 1941, a loan was granted in the form a baby girl named Nora Suzette Reese to the late Mozart and Nora Reese in Columbus, Georgia. Nora Suzette, affectionately called Sue, was the eighth child of fifteen. She was preceded in death by her parents and three of her siblings: Billie Jean Reese Abron, Mozart Reese Jr., and Mozelle Reese Coleman. Sue came to know the Lord at an early age through Beth Salem Presbyterian Church. Walking with the Lord she utilized her voice to spread HIS news via song in the choir. It is here where she started her love for music. She attended public schools in Columbus, Georgia, where she soared as an honor student. This led to her studies in nursing at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. Here her dream of becoming a nurse became a reality. She was commissioned in the United States Army serving as an army nurse. She later was honorably discharged at the rank of 1LT. Her service to mankind was in the beginning stages as she joined the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated continuing her mission to serve. Nora Suzette Reese met Michael Gourrier during her studies in Louisiana and later married Michael. To this matrimonial union four sons were born: Steven, Christopher, Jonathan, and Joseph. Nora Suzette Reese Gourrier continued her educational path as she earned her Master of Science degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. This is when she relocated back to her home state. After some years, she left with her newly made family to build a home in Texas. She led a thirty-five-year nursing career as a school nurse in Galveston Independent School District, nurse practitioner, and nurse educator at Galveston College. Though busy with her home life and career, Sue didn’t neglect her spiritual life. McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church in La Marque, Texas, became her church home. As a member, she sang in the Chancel Choir fulfilling her love for music. She did retire after her thirty-five-year nursing career but continued with caring for her sons. It was her joy to see that her sons were happy and reached their highest potential. Her health began to fail and she moved to Pearland, TX, to be closer to treatment. Unfortunately, as debts are made, they must be paid and our loan on Nora Suzette Reese Gourrier was called in on July 28, 2018, as she listened to her favorite song at her home with her family by her side. Her legacy and memories continue with her four sons: Steven Gourrier (Yolanda) of Houston, TX, Christopher Gourrier (Kimberly) of Burbank, CA, Jonathan Gourrier of Pearland, TX, Joseph Gourrier (Salena) of Missouri City, TX; seven grandchildren: Rhine Kirkland (Bobby) of Rock Hill, SC, Montriesia Gourrier of Rosharon, TX, Kristen Gourrier and Kelly Gourrier both of Burbank, CA, Desmond Gourrier of Houston, TX, Joseph Gourrier II and Madison Gourrier Joshua Hearne-Sowell all of Missouri City, TX; three great-grandchildren: Carmen Gourrier of Rosharon, TX, Riley Kirkland and Braxton Kirkland both of Rock Hill, SC; eleven siblings: Peggy Reese Evans of Fayetteville, NC, Jack Reese (Bessie) of Warrensville, OH, Gordon Reese (Elfisa) of San Francisco, CA, Allen Reese (Mildred) of Los Angeles, CA, Faye Reese-Clark of Erial, NJ, Thurston Reese (Jacqueline) of Los Angeles, CA, Vinson Reese (Belinda) of Columbus, GA, Vivian Reese Whitfield of Atlanta, GA, Walter Reese (Joann) of Saint Robert, MO, Milo Reese Slocumb of Fayetteville, NC, and Roger Reese of Columbus, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
