Nellie Joyce Witt's Obituary
Joyce Witt died peacefully on April 18, 2019 at the age of 90. Joyce was born in Oakwood, Texas, on December 3, 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and John Walter Westbrook, brothers G. W Westbrook, Tommy Westbrook, Joe Westbrook, and Andrew Westbrook, her sister Ruth Stansbury and her son Ronald Wayne Witt. She was married to George Roy Witt, Jr., until his death in 2003. Joyce is survived by her children, Michael and his wife Donna, Royce and his wife Becky, Joyce and her husband Don Moore, and Shane; her sister Syble Hewitt and husband Kenneth; four grandchildren Toi Collins, Tami Babcock, Matthew Metcalf, and Steven Witt; eight great grandchildren, Jackson, Cooper, Micah, Samuel, Owen, Tessa, Gauge, and Nora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce attended Friendswood Baptist Church since the 1980’s and served faithfully as pianist for most of those years. She has worked at numerous small jobs throughout her life, but her primary role was as a wife and a mother to her five children. She loved to bowl and did so for many years. One of the highlights of her life was singing with her sisters Ruth and Syble, and they called themselves The Westbrook Trio. They sang at churches all around the area almost every weekend for many years, and at The Galveston County Gospel Singing for over ten years. She loved playing games, and it was very important to her to be victorious. We loved that spirit in her.
