Mrs. Nellie Mauney's Obituary
Nellie Elizabeth Mauney, nee Roland, was born June 22, 1916 in Oconoluftee, Swain County, North Carolina and passed away on January 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Tom, and by her eleven brothers and sisters. She married Thomas Hilary Mauney in 1939. They moved to Pasadena, Texas, in the early '40s to work in the newly constructed Champion Paper Plant. She returned to North Carolina while her husband served in World War II. They returned to Pasadena in 1945 to resume their lives and jobs. She raised a son Tom and a daughter Teresa in their own home, a major accomplishment in their life. Nell was a dedicated mother, homemaker, and wife. Her life was her family, her home, her husband, and her Christian belief. Later she helped with her grandsons, one of the major loves of her life. She was very active in her church. After retirement, she became a champion league bowler, participated in Harris County Senior Citizens, and traveled extensively with her husband. Nell is survived by her son Tom and wife Dixie of Huntsville, TX; her daughter Teresa of Houston, TX; grandson Jeff and wife Kerri of Tomball, TX; grandson Derek and wife Tracey of Pearland, TX; two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many, friends. A celebration of Nell's life will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 12:30 pm at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, preceded by a visitation beginning at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Pasadena Care Center and Resolutions Hospice for the kind and loving care they provided for our loved one.
