Nellie Harris' Obituary
Nellie Harris, 94, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Forest Grove Beehive Assisted Living Facility. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 12:30 P.M. at the South Park Funeral Home, 1301 North Main Street, Pearland, Texas, with Reverend Guy Cagle, pastor of the Park Place Baptist Church, officiating. NELLIE HARRIS was born on October 25, 1919 in Marion, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Charlie and Mattie Brantley. She was raised and received her education in the Marion community, having been a graduate with the High School Class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Arthur Eugene Harris on Dec.28th 1949 in Nueces Texas. Following their marriage they made their home in the communities of Corpus Christi and Houston Texas. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur on Sept. 25th 1985 her son Bob Harris July 7th 2004, and five of her brothers and sisters . She worked as a PBX Operator for Bell Telephone Company for over 38 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Park Place Baptist church for many years attending since 1956. Among her special interests, Nellie enjoyed teaching Sunday School, going out to lunch with her church friends, getting her hair done and receiving, a good bowel of clam chowder and "a squeeze on my neck" from her Grandchildren. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Deva Harris-Williams, of Gaston, Oregon; her Grandchildren Deborah Harris Kiergaard, Shane and Michale Harris, Jade and Erin Harris. Great Grandchildren Ryan , Emma, Alyssa Harris. Nathan Kiergaard. Many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her siblings and their spouses, Grace and Ken Evans, Deannie Jensen and JoAnne and Willis Haynes. The family suggests that remembrances in lieu of flowers may be contributions to The Bee Hive Assisted Living Forest Grove Oregon for the staff lounge remodeling 2122 Hawthorne Street Forest Grove Or 97116 or Hospice and Palliative Care Partners 800 SE Oak St. Hillsboro Or. 97123. Both of groups provided excellent care to Nellie in her final days of life.
