Nelda G. Jordan, 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 8, 2026, at Genoa Assisted Living. She was born on October 24, 1943, in Harlingen, Texas, to Benito and Tomasa Garcia.
Nelda grew up in Harlingen and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1962. She later earned her Associate’s Degree in Theology, a reflection of her deep faith and lifelong commitment to spiritual learning.
Nelda G. Jordan was the heart of her family—an extraordinary mother of four whose life was defined by love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those around her. She believed deeply in the importance of family and created a home filled with warmth, guidance, and compassion. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and for more than 25 years she dedicated herself to working and volunteering within the Catholic Church, serving others with humility and generosity. Through both her actions and her example, Nell showed what it means to live a life rooted in faith, love, and service.
She was the beloved wife of the late Larry Dean Holland, the love of her life. Nelda was also preceded in death by her father, Benito Garcia, and her mother, Tomasa Garcia.
Nelda is survived by her children: Michael Anthony Esparza, Monica Melgar (Charles Butcher), Sandra Smith, and David A. Holland. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Sebastian Esparza, Emmanuele Esparza, David A. Bonilla‑Melgar, Logan C. Butcher, and Luke A. Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Rolando Garcia, and her sister, Susie Talbert Garcia. Additionally, she is survived by her former husband, David Melgar.
Nelda was proud to be the Queen Bee of the Red Hat Society, where she found joy, friendship, and laughter among her fellow members. Her warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit made her a natural leader and a treasured friend.
Nelda’s life was defined by love—love for her family, love for her community, and love for the simple joys that made each day meaningful. She will be remembered for her grace, her strength, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met.
