Mrs. Myrtle M. Comeaux's Obituary
Marie Myrtle Comeaux was called home to be with our Lord on October 14, 2009. She was a devout Catholic, devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, cherished sister and friend. She was our inspiration, guiding light, and a tireless advocate for her family. Myrtle is a native of Kaplan, Louisiana. She was born Marie Myrtle Maraist, to Frank Maraist and Christine Deshotel Maraist Voorhies, on February 20, 1930. Later she married and moved to Jennings, Louisiana. Myrtle then transferred to Houston with her husband and family. Myrtle is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Comeaux, Sr. They were married October 14, 1950. A life time spent together, it is symbolic that their life journey ended on the same date they had married. Together they shared a love of traveling and eventually found a little piece of paradise in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. There they spent their retirement years traveling and enjoying each other's company. Myrtle found great pleasure in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a selfless devotion to her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. Myrtle loved cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She was an avid historian who had an extensive knowledge of politics and enjoyed a challenging debate. She grew up in a family that supported and encouraged intellectual challenges. She is also survived by her six children, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren listed in chronological order: (Sons) Robert Comeaux, Jr. and wife Debra, David Comeaux, and James Comeaux and wife Deanna; (Daughters) Susan Yearsley and husband Harry, Lisa Straughn and husband Steve, and Nancy Ramirez and husband Ray. Grandchildren: James Comeaux, Jr. and wife Emily, Andy Comeaux and wife Monica, Shawnte Lamar and husband Shayne, Michael Comeaux, Christopher Straughn and wife Kyndra, Ray Ramirez, Jr., Brian Comeaux and wife Ashley, Matthew Straughn, Justin Yearsley, and Alex Comeaux. (Great Grandchildren) Madelynn Straughn, Reese Comeaux, Hallie Comeaux and Ethan Straughn.
Myrtle is also survived by her beloved brother, Frank Maraist and his wife Catherine and their family. Myrtle will be missed by her family and friends but we take comfort in the knowledge that she will be waiting to welcome us home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org).
