Myrna Ann Peters' Obituary
Myrna Ann Maeker Peters, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, at UTMB Health's Clear Lake Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on Saturday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m.
Born in Flatonia, Texas, on April 9, 1938, Myrna was the beloved daughter of Leslie Maeker and Vincencia "Winnie" Grady. She was raised in Flatonia with her three brothers, Walter Francis, Errol Edward, and David Leroy. She told many stories of growing up on her grandmother Frances Merecka's farm, picking cotton, smelling Bluebonnets, and chasing her brothers down dusty country roads.
Myrna graduated from Flatonia High School in 1956. She married Norman Eugene Peters of Elm Grove, Fayette County, Texas, in 1957 and moved to Houston, Texas, where they made their home. She would remain in the Houston area for the remainder of her life. A dedicated mother and homemaker, Myrna poured her heart into raising her two daughters, Teri Lynn and Sandy Kay.
In 1975, she began working at the UTHealth School of Dentistry at the Houston Medical Center as a cashier and eventually became the personal administrative assistant to the Dean. She retired in 1996 after 20 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, she worked a few days a week at Sagemont Baptist Church Playschool, where she cared for preschool-aged children. She loved those little "Ducks"!
Myrna was a faithful member of Sagemont Church for 30 years. After Hurricane Harvey flooded her home, she transferred her membership to Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, Texas. She volunteered in the nursery, taught children's Sunday School, and participated in Women's Ministry events. She deeply loved all the women in her Sunday School classes; they gave her love, laughter, encouragement, and friendship, especially during the last year of her life.
Myrna loved keeping a tidy home, working in her yard, taking long walks, attending family gatherings and reunions, and baking cakes and meals for ailing friends and neighbors. She also loved caring for her great-grandchildren when they were babies.
Myrna is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Maeker; her mother, Winnie Grady; her brothers, Errol Maeker and David Leroy Maeker; her half-sister, Janet Filla; and her grandson, Christopher Kinderman.
Myrna is survived by her daughters, Teri Neely, and husband Greg, Sandy Nylund, and husband David; her grandchildren Jennifer Alvarez, and husband Anthony, Kayla Nylund, Lauren Beyer, and husband Ryon; her seven great-grandchildren, Paige Kinderman, Jillian Kinderman, Ryan Kinderman, Colby Alvarez, Cori Alvarez, Knox Beyer, and Neely Beyer, and one great-great- grandchild, Christopher Kinderman. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Maeker, and wife Shirley, half-sister Debra Filla, half-brothers Leslie Maeker and Randy Maeker, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Myrna leaves behind loved ones who will be forever changed by her presence in their lives. We are forever grateful for her joy, faith, and unconditional love. We long for the day when we will see her again. Rest peacefully, Mom. We love you, and you will forever be in our hearts.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Visiting Angels, including Jackie, Mary, and many others. Thank you so much for the care and companionship you gave Mom during the last months of her life.
A graveside service will take place Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. 1310 N Main St. Pearland, Texas. A reception with the family will be held following the service at Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, 12711 Gulf Fwy, Houston, Texas. Lunch will be served.
