Mustafa Jammil Nuru's Obituary
Mustafa Jammil Nuru, 39, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26th, 2020. He was born on June 27, 1980 to Lucille Warren Nuru and Mustafa Nuru in Huntsville, Alabama.
Jammil attended John Foster Dulles High School and received his diploma on May 23, 1998. After graduation from Dulles, he went on to attend Prairie View A&M University and Houston Community College for a few semesters. He also obtained his certification in Non-Destructive Testing from the Ocean Corporation in 2011. He, unfortunately, never had to opportunity to pursue a career in this field. He had stints of working with his friend De’Morris Fontenot (Cougar) doing home repairs and Henry Edwards at Christmas decorating homes throughout Houston. He most recently worked as a machinist at Star Pipe with his friend Curtis Haynes and really enjoyed learning every machine in the shop and working on each of them.
Jammil was married to Katrina Hayles in 2000, to which one son, Mustafa Jammil Nuru, Jr. was born on December 1, 2001. While this union ended in divorce, Jammil remained a constant in Jammil Jr.'s life. Jammil was in a long-term relationship with Devin Broussard and together they raised two beautiful girls Milan and Mirrah. Jammil's children were his heart and joy. There's no denying that, his babies as he called them, were the people that he loved the most.
At an early age, Jammil developed a joy of competing in competitive sports and played Basketball, Baseball and Football. He was one of the quarterbacks for his high school football team. He also obtained his Black Belt in Karate where he participated with his dad and sister. We were so proud of the many trophies won by them during competitions. That competitive edge existed throughout his life, whether it be talking trash at the card table or playing a game of dominos. Jammil also had a passion for working on old cars with his dad, and had a particular obsession with Cadillacs.
Jammil had the kindest spirit in the world and would give you the shirt off his back. He was particularly close to his first cousin, Lafayette (Boo). Boo addressed Jammil as 'Meat' and the two of them were always finding trouble to get into. He developed friendships that lasted from elementary school until the day God called him home. We are so grateful to those friends who have come by to check on us and share memories from their antics throughout the years. Memories that made us all laugh and cry at the same time.
Jammil is survived by his parents, Mustafa and Lucille Nuru, his sister, Cordé Patrice Nuru and his son, Mustafa Jammil Nuru, Jr., Milan and Mirrah.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Jammil were his maternal grandmother Helen Warren of Oneona, Alabama; his maternal grandfather Henry Warren, Sr of Oneonta, Alabama; paternal grandfather, Nuru Jiru of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Africa; where Jammil spent some time getting to know his dad’s family) and uncles, Willie Percy and Ned Ray Warren of Oneonta, Alabama.
Loved ones that will miss Jammil until they meet again are his aunts Jacquelyne Kyle Bennett of Huntsville, Alabama; Rica Jones (Archie) of Gadsden, Alabama; and Vivian Grayson (Curtis) of Wycliffe, Ohio; uncles Harold Kyle (Fredrica) of Cleveland, Ohio, Henry Warren, Jr. (Beverly) of Huntsville, Alabama', Larry Warren (Teresa) of Cleveland, Ohio; Ronald Warren of Oneonta, Alabama and many other cousins and loving friends.
Due to current restrictions caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, public services are not available at this time. When the time is right, we will have a "HUGE" party to celebrate Jammil's life. lt will be the best party, none will be better. Until then, rest easy Jammil and we will miss you. Arrangements are entrusted to South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N Main St, Pearland, TX 77581. For online condolences visit: SouthParkFunerals.com
