Monica Monirotha Tan's Obituary
Monica Monirotha Tan was born on April 23, 1987 in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest of four siblings. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tan.
She was part of Klein Forest High School Class of 2005. Her graduation was delayed due to illness but with determination and effort she graduated high school in 2006. She was part of a Grammy-award winning Klein Forest High School Orchestra. Her love and appreciation of music influence ranged from instrumental music and cinematography from Japanese Studio Ghibli music and anime to Kpop music. She studied Education and Psychology at Lone Star College System where she met her close circle of friends who became an extended family to her.
After graduating from college, she was owner of AddicTokki, and travelled the anime convention circuit to promote and sell her art and jewelry crafts. She was involved with the Lolita J-fashion community and helped coordinate Lolita J-fashion shows.
Monica’s hobbies included photography, Anime, J-fashion and Lolita, kpop music, dog videos, sewing, arts and crafts, attending conventions, hanging out with family and friends, and all things food appreciation.
Monica had such an enthusiasm and obsession for what she loved, that she would share it with everyone through her creativity and love for sweets. She wanted to open a cafe-bakery with her brother Kelvin. Her long time desire was to open a boutique. Her dream was cut short from a life long battle with lupus nephritis.
She is survived by her partner Brian Chow, grandmother Lourn Tang, father, Sarak Tan, mother Phoumary Tang, sister Christine Tan and niece Sovannary Cynthia Tan-Davis, brothers Rechard and Kelvin Tan. Including her aunts and uncles: Sovuthy Sam, Phalkuny and Vuthy Yos, Brenda and Trystian Yos, Ponchivy Tan, and her beloved dog Yumi.
Monica was a member of Cambodian Baptist Church of Houston. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young person. She is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
