In Loving Memory of Miriam Bredahl Thumann
Miriam Bredahl Thumann, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the deaf community, peacefully passed away with her children by her side on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Special thanks to her dedicated caregiver Marci Valdez, whose unwavering love and support brought comfort and care to Miriam.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, Miriam began her remarkable journey at the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, AL, later moving to Texas where she graduated from the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) in Austin in 1952. It was there that she met Linard Thumann, the love of her life. Miriam continued her education at Gallaudet College in Washington DC before returning to Texas to marry Linard in 1955.
She and Linard built a life together, residing in Wharton and Houston until Linard's passing in 1997. In 2000, Miriam embarked on a new chapter, moving to LaVista in San Marcos, Texas.
Miriam is survived by her children Carlene Thumann-Prezioso and her husband Randy, Chris Thumann and his wife Catherine, Helen Thumann and her wife Claire, and daughter-in-law Kathryn Baldridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cade Thumann and his fiance Edie Magana, and Cole Thumann.
She was preceded in death by her husband Linard Thumann, daughters Darlene and Mary Thumann, granddaughter Caitlin Thumann, sisters Augusta Lombard, Anita Ernest, Ruth Boland, Lois McGunagle, and brothers Carl and Leon. Miriam's legacy extends to her numerous nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember her kindness and warmth.
Miriam will be remembered for the love and kindness that she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
