Mina Jane Korenek's Obituary
Mina Jane Sheldon Korenek was born June 9, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho. Preceding her in death is her husband, Alfred Korenek, her parents William Morris Sheldon and Mina Gertrude Mullins Sheldon, her siblings Mary Margaret Ford, Michael Daniel Sheldon, William Morris Sheldon and William Mullin Sheldon. She was raised in Pocatello and attended church at St. Joseph Church where she was baptized Catholic. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California where Jane received her high school diploma at St. Agnes High School in 1947. Jane received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego College for Women in 1964. Jane served the Catholic church as a nun for many years with Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. During this time Jane became a teacher as well as school principal for various Catholic schools.
She left her role as Sister Wilhelmina, around 1970 and moved to Houston, Texas to be close to her sister, Mary Ford. It was while living in the Museum District that Jane met her husband, Alfred Korenek. Jane and Al married in 1972 and remained married until Alfred’s passing in 2000. Jane and Al were very much in love and had a wonderful marriage together.
Alfred and she loved to travel and took many trips and cruises during their time together. They loved to visit various churches and Jane enjoyed studying her family history and genealogy. She and Alfred were active at their parish church St. Helen’s in Pearland where they served as volunteers in many aspects of the church. She had many friends throughout her life and was Godmother to numerous children in her life. Those who knew her loved her great sense of humor and wit. She was a devout Christian and was an inspiration to everyone around her.
