Maura A. De Gonzales' Obituary
Maura A De Gonzales was born on January 15, 1944, in a town Northwest of Mexico City to Jose and Maria. She grew up in Cuernavaca, Morelos “City of Eternal Spring” where she worked and helped her parents raise her 8 younger siblings. In the early 70’s she immigrated to Texas and settled in Houston, Texas where she met her husband, Martin Gonzales.
After her only child, Gerardo, was born, Maura decided to become a stay-at-home mom and become an active Volunteer in Public Schools (VIPS) for many years. She got up early to make sure Martin had a homemade breakfast and packed lunch every workday and then had a delicious dinner on the table every evening. She loved animals and always had either a pet bird or squirrel that she rescued and cared back to health, as well as the many cats and dogs during her lifetime. She loved to garden and was proud to show of her various fruit trees that she grew from seed and shared the fruit with friends. Her backyard was filled with rose bushes that carried a beautiful aroma throughout the sounding area. She was a self-taught chef that mastered cooking amazing meals and pastries in which friends and family would ask for her recipes. She spent a lot of time at All Saints Catholic Church 3rd Age Learning Center where she spent many hours with her friends working on her Creative Memories photo albums. She devoted the last 50 years to being a supportive wife, mother and grandmother and left a legacy of love.
Maura is survived by her husband of 50 years, Martin Gonzales, her son Gerardo Gonzales, daughter-in-law Kelley Gonzales, grandchildren Alexia Gonzales and Lorenzo Gonzales as well as stepchildren and their families. Preceded in death by her father, mother and two younger brothers Miguel and Jose Santos.
