Matthew Wesley Hanegan's Obituary
Matthew Wesley Hanegan, 43, of Paul's Valley, OK, passed away, with loved ones by his side, on March 23rd, 2023, from an undiagnosed illness. Born on December 28th, 1979, in Houston, he was an Irish Twin, which might explain his vibrant, witty, analytical, generous, and intellectual personality. His unique, loving nature will be remembered by all who knew him. Matt loved fully & was deeply loved.
As a member of the "fun" uncle club, he was adored by nieces & nephews alike. He had a keen aptitude for learning with lots of passion for soccer, bike riding, frisbee golf, & driving fast! There are numerous funny stories from fishing mishaps, trampoline adventures, boyhood antics & more, plus the distinctive quirks, sense of humor & sometimes sarcastic responses of just being Matt. His genuine fondness for animals grew stronger throughout his life, especially his love for dogs; spending time getting to know every pup he met.
At age 4, he began playing on a soccer team, continuing for roughly 3 decades, typically with his brother on the team. Matt was privileged with the opportunity to ride on Nasa’s Vomit Comet & fortunately, did not spew! At 15, he began working as a dishwasher in a seafood restaurant, was also a driving range golf ball retriever, a checkout clerk at Sears, and finally he worked at Lockheed Martin in a high school co-op program.
Matt was always a straight "A" student wherever he studied, graduating with honors in the top 7% at Pearland High School in 1998. Receiving a full scholarship to the University of Houston Honors program, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Physics in 2002. He completed an MBA from the University of Houston as well. While studying for his MBA, he worked for BP p.l.c. Oil & Gas. He then accepted a position with CVR Energy at the Wynnewood Refinery, which led to a move to Oklahoma.
Matt is survived by his parents, Steve & Mary Ann Hanegan, sister Rachael & husband Todd McGee, brother Pete & wife Krystal Hanegan; nieces & nephews Kyle, Quinn, & Corey McGee, Tristan, Everett, & Lyla Hanegan, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, many caring friends, and the love of his life Kandice Dalmolin.
Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilbur Eugene & Hettie Modean Hanegan, Clinton & Mary Lucille Wilkes. Plus, several dogs he thoroughly loved & adored throughout his life.
Our precious beloved Matthew Wesley Hanegan will forever be missed, yet never far from our thoughts. Although taken from us far too soon, even in his short years on earth, he led an amazing life! We trust he is safely home in heaven, finally at peace, away from the troubles of this world, pain-free, & perfectly healthy with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Those who love Jesus will see him again!
