Mathew P John's Obituary
Mathew Pichanattu John (Babychan) was born on February 29, 1944, in the city of Vakathanam, Ranny, Kerala, India. He was the fifth-born child of the late P.T. John and Saramma Thomas. Born into a Marthoma family, Babychan accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a teenager. He later became baptized at the New York Pentecostal Assembly in Queens, New York.
In 1980, Babychan moved to Oklahoma and then Houston, Texas along with his wife Annamma John (Mani) where they settled and raised their four children Jino, Julie, Joy and Joel in the suburb of Pasadena. Through the marriages of their children, Babychan and Mani welcomed Savitha Mathew, Burli Johnson, Reji George and Steffin Mathew into their family.
Babychan was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and his faith did not waver through the various seasons of life. He read and studied his Bible daily and led a house filled with consistent prayer and a sole dependence on the Almighty God. Babychan was a founding member of Ebenezer Assembly of God in Houston and has faithfully served the church over the past two decades.
Babychan was a friend to many. Through a quiet and meek demeanor he expressed his love towards his family and friends and provided for the needs of numerous individuals both locally and abroad in India.
Besides his children, Babychan leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Hannah Mathew, Benjamin Mathew, Luke George, Lily George, Hope John, Eden Johnson, Salem Johnson and Zachary John.
Babychan peacefully entered glory while in his sleep on May 6, 2023, at the age of 79. He will truly be missed.
