Mathai Kottunjalil's Obituary
With deep sorrow yet in the blessed hope of resurrection, we celebrate the life of Mr. K. M. Mathai (Joychayan), a devoted servant of God, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished member of his community.
Born on March 1, 1949, in Pullad, Kerala, India, he was the beloved son of Mr. George Mathai and Mrs. Aleyamma Mathai. As the second of seven children, he grew up with two brothers and four sisters, nurtured in faith and family values. On January 6, 1977, he married his beloved wife, Ammini Mathai, and together they were blessed with three sons: Jogy, Joshi, and Jomon. He dedicated 24 years of service to Kerala Minerals and Metals in Kollam, retiring in 2007.
In 1994, Joychayan and his wife accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and were baptized. His newfound faith transformed his life, leading him to become a respected elder of IPC Maramon, Kerala. He was a man of prayer and compassion, opening his home for prayer meetings and ministering to his community with love and dedication. He was always ready to help others, offering comfort, support, and encouragement to family and friends alike.
In 2010, he moved to Houston, Texas, to be with his eldest son’s family in Sugarland and became an active member of Amazing Grace Assembly, Pearland. A prayer warrior and a faithful worshiper, he participated in church activities, always seeking ways to serve and support the ministry. His unwavering dedication was evident in his wholehearted support of the church’s mission and its building project.
Even amid chronic kidney failure since 2022, he remained steadfast in faith, demonstrating remarkable strength and perseverance. His trust in the Lord never wavered, and he continued to fulfill his spiritual responsibilities with joy, never allowing his illness to overshadow his commitment to serving others. His life was a testimony of faith, inspiring those around him to trust in God’s unfailing love.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ammini Mathai; his sons George Mathew (Jogy), Varghese Mathew (Joshi), and Jacob Mathew (Jomon); daughters-in-law Jinu, Anju, and Raji; and grandchildren Abigail, Angel, Victoria, Gabriella, Nathania, Olivia, Joanna, and Ivanna. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family, relatives, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
John 11:25-26
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.'"
