Mary Helen Sanchez's Obituary
Mary Helen Sanchez of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2022, after battling several health issues.
Helen was born on April 19th, 1945 in Mercedes, TX, where she spent most of her childhood and early teenage years.
During her High School years, Helen decided to follow her vocation and entered the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence. Years later she left the convent, but continued to pursue what God wanted her to do.
She then followed her dreams and entered College and even obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Houston. She worked for almost 25 years for the Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Also during that time, Helen went on to have 2 daughters: Carla Gomez and Erica San Miguel, and one son: Carlos Sanchez Jr
She is survived by 8 beloved grandkids (Krystle, Chris, Matthew, Jessica, Joseph, Mary, Symantha, and Brittany) and 8 great-grandkids. And 6 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Elena Villarreal.
Helen had a generous heart of gold, never hesitating to help people out.
She was known for her friendliness and for letting people know that she loved them.
Helen loved to dance and sing, a few of the many reasons why she joined the St. Francis de Sales English and Spanish choirs. Every Sunday her beautiful Soprano voice could be heard in the Spanish masses.
She later became the Coordinator of the Hispanic Ministry, where she played a key role in organizing fundraising events to help finance the remodeling of the church and many other projects.
Helen was an avid reader. She read the Bible entirely 5 times. She was also a hard worker and a resilient figure in the face of adversity. Even months before her passing she worked full time as a caregiver.
Her sense of humor was unique. And she was compassionate as she was funny. She would say jokes and sing to all the medical personnel who assisted her at the Hospital.
Even when ill, Helen was never angry, sad, or depressed. She could always find the silver lining in all situations. Her sweet smile opened all doors.
Rest In Peace, Helen. Que Dios te bendiga!
Mother, sister, grandmother, and very dear friend. You will forever be missed!!!
