Mary Ramona Rector's Obituary
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Ramona Rector (née Hernandez) of Pearland,
Texas passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025. She was 91. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Ross Harold Rector, her brothers, Jose Hernandez, Lorenzo Hernandez,
Antonio Hernandez, Jesus Hernandez, and Juan Hernandez, her sisters Barbara Oropeza
and Edith Camacho, and her grandsons Glenn Freund and Eric Freund.
Born in Junction, Texas, she was the youngest daughter of Juan and Francis Hernandez. She
spent most of her childhood in Johnson City, Texas before moving to Houston.
Mary was a strong-willed woman. Her indomitable spirit allowed her to twice defeat
cancer. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Even with our large family, she always
found a way to make time for everyone. She often hosted holiday parties that would end
with poker games that she won more often than not. Her cooking was beyond compare,
and her home was always full of the wonderful smells of her tamales, enchiladas, and
tortillas. She was a kind-hearted and patient mother figure to many, caring for
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and others who would adopt her as their surrogate
mom. She enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting, and was an expert shot. She read
voraciously, going through books faster than we could provide them. She was a caregiver
that nursed her children through sniffles and sneezes, bumps and bruises, broken bones,
and battles with cancer. She loved her family fiercely. Her ability to bring the whole family
together and make everyone feel loved was unmatched. Her smile was genuine, her laugh
was infectious, and her love for us was perfect. She loved life and those she shared it with.
We are left with wonderful memories of her affection and times spent together.
She is survived by her sons Edward Parker Jr., Wayne Parker, and William Brown, her
daughters Mary Willis and Patricia Barlow, her grandsons Gregory Parker, Larry Freund,
Joshua Parker, Dustin Brown and Dallas Brown, her granddaughters Tammy Broadway,
Deanna Barras, Leanna Williams, Ashley Parker and Molly Brown. Mary also had twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Mary on Saturday April 19, 2025, at South Park Funeral
Home on 1310 North Main Street in Pearland, Texas.
