Mrs. Mary Virginia Melcher's Obituary
Mary Virginia Melcher entered into the loving arms of our Lord on December 15, 2019 at the age of 87 years old in an Arlington,Texas hospital. She was born in Onalaska, Texas, the oldest of 6 children to Hugh Lawson Gross and Willer Mae Robbins Gross on August 23, 1932.
Mary married Billy Howard Melcher Sr. on December 23, 1949 in Houston, Texas. Together, they had 4 children and were married almost 47 years until his death on December 13, 1996. Mary and Billy also lived in Tampa, Florida, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Seoul, South Korea. After Billy’s death, Mary moved to Arlington, Texas in 2000.
Mary and Billy loved to play and host bridge parties, she sewed all of her own clothes and those of her husband and children. She could keep any plant alive just with her tender loving care. Mary taught her daughters how to cook, sew, crochet and knit. Billy’s profession took them to many places and Mary was happy to accompany her husband wherever his job sent them. She cared deeply for her family and whenever asked, sacrificed her time and energy to help them. Mary was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church of Arlington, Texas. She was a great daughter, sister, wife and mother and will be missed tremendously by anyone that had the pleasure to know and to love her.
Mary Virginia Melcher is preceded in death by her husband; Billy Howard Melcher Sr., her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, her son; Billy Howard Melcher Jr., an infant daughter, an infant granddaughter, a great great grandson; Benjamin Isaiah Aguilar and a son-in-law; Charlie Edward Truelove.
Mary is survived by, daughters Peggy Ann Truelove of Jefferson, Georgia and Cheryl Virginia Wilcox and husband Timothy of Arlington, Texas and Daughter-in-law Mary Ann Melcher of Ingleside, Texas. Thirteen grandchildren (Robert Marcus, Regina, Daniel, Mary Christina, Melissa, Geneva, Michael, Lesley, Ehrin, Timothy, Stacey, Joseph and Sarah) Sixteen Great Grandchildren (Noah, Ashley, Nathan, Austin, Jonathan, Brooke, Ty, Julian, Matthew, Amelia, Aubrey, Gabriella, Noah, Liam, Sophia and Richard) and two great great grandchildren (Luke and River).
The Melcher family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at SouthPark Funeral Home for funeral service to start at 2:00 PM with burial to follow services at SouthPark Cemetery, 1310 N Main St, Pearland Texas 77581.
