Mrs. Mary Cornelia Mazur's Obituary
Mary Cornelia (Magna) Mazur age 92, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 in Pearland, Texas. She was a third generation Houstonian, descendant of 1850's German immigrant, John Clay (Klee), and daughter of Joseph Magna and Cornelia ( Clay) Magna. After graduating high school, Mary attended St. Joseph's nursing school. She spent most of her life serving others, first as an Army nurse in World War ll and later at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where she was loved by her many co-workers and patients from around the world. She was at the forefront of the evolution of cancer treatment at M. D. Anderson and was herself a three time cancer survivor. She faced cancer as she faced her life, with dignity and quiet determination. Mary was an avid gardener and took pride in her many, varied flowers. She met her future husband, Walter (Hank) Mazur, while working at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Houston. They were married for 52 years before his death in 2006. Mary was a devout Catholic and devoted mother who instilled in her children a love of God and family, a strong work ethic and respect for others. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Hank, brother Joseph Magna, and sister Evelyn Harper. She is survived by her sister Margaret Wetuski; her children Michael Mazur of Pearland, Texas, Ann Major and husband Randy of Pearland, Tim Mazur and wife Katherine of Alvin, Texas and Lynn Mazur and companion Steve Martin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations are made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 11:30 AM at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland with Funeral Service's starting at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
