Mrs. Mary Ethel Martin's Obituary
Mary Ethel Fleer Martin passed away at home in Pearland, Texas on Friday morning, November 18, 2016 at the age of 88.
Mary is predeceased by husband, Alden Fredrick “Fred” Martin, Sr. and her parents, Ernest Julius Fleer and Anna Mona Harton Fleer.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her sons, Alden F. Martin Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Pearland, David Martin and his wife Ginny of Hempstead, Mark Martin and his wife, Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Neal Martin and his wife Pam of Rosharon.
Mary was Grandma to 13 children and their spouses- Russell and Meagan Martin, Keith and Sarah Kortemeier Martin, Miranda and Keith Freitag, Dottie and David Bennink, Erik and Melissa Martin, Mary and Erik Gravely, Jeff Martin, Amy and Jay Black, Derrick and Sara Martin, Michelle and Logan Boatright, Lindsay and Jered Hales, Adam Barfield and Brian Barfield.
She was blessed by 18 great grandchildren and 3 great –great grandchildren.
Norman Fleer and Mary Lou of Anaheim, California, and Reva and Joe Bardusch of Brick, New Jersey will miss their older sister.
She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mary was born in El Campo, Texas on Easter Sunday morning, April 8, 1928. After graduation from EL Campo High in May, 1945, she attended Durham Business College completing her secretarial certification in December of the year. Her first job was with Texas Package Car Company in the old M&M building, now the UH Downtown campus. Mary retired from Holland Southwest in 1991 as an executive secretary.
Mary was a member of First United Methodist – Pearland for 51 years and attended the Searchlight Sunday School Class. She and her husband were avid square and round dancers and, an accomplished seamstress, Mary made all of their costumes. They enjoyed camping and were members of the Good Sam’s Club.
The visitation will be held at SouthPark Funeral Home 1310 N. Main St. in Pearland, Texas on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM.
The Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist – Pearland on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Marie Fuhrken officiating. Interment to follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
