Mrs. Mary Ann Cowart's Obituary
Celebrating The life of Mary Ann Cowart
Mary Ann Cowart was born on January 13, 1936 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, the 2nd of 5 children, and loved her Cajun roots. She moved with her parents Ellia and Lillian (Istre) LeBlanc to Houston in 1951 where she attended San Jacinto High School and worked selling movie tickets at a movie theatre. As fate would have it a handsome young man by the name of John D. (Johnny) Cowart worked next door at a gas station, back in the good old days when they were full service. It didn’t take long for romance to blossom and they were married on July 5, 1954 in Houston, Tx. Johnny was the love of her life and they were married 1 month shy of 61 years when Johnny passed in 2015. Mary Ann was a member of St. Helens Church in Pearland for 48 years and was a devout and loyal Catholic. She worked at Cullen Frost Bank for 40 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement Mary Ann and Johnny loved to go to Louisiana for a little fun in the Casinos. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars and Southeast Shrine Club, where Johnny also was involved. Mary Ann loved life and her family, and would welcome anyone into her home. She also had a special affinity for children and made a place to care during the day for two special girls to whom she was as close to as her grandchildren, first Hannah Brooks, then Mary Hughes. Little Mary, now 15, had been a daily companion to Mary Ann since she was a newborn, and helped keep her company after school each day after Johnny passed. The family will always be grateful to little Mary for her companionship to “Nonnie”. In addition Mary Ann had several special friends in her life, Paula Scardino, Viola Cormier, and Bobbie LeBlanc, all of whom gave her lifelong support and joy. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, John D. Cowart; her parents Ellia and Lillian LeBlanc; brothers Orden John LeBlanc, Daryle Dean LeBlanc, and Larry James LeBlanc. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Faye (LeBlanc) Everitt and her husband Joe L. Everitt; her sons Robert Wayne Cowart and wife Bobbie Cowart, and John Lester Cowart and wife Kathy Tinney; daughter Susan (Cowart) Bentley and husband Ted Bentley; Grandkids Adam Cowart, Matthew Cowart, Russell Cowart, Bobby Cowart, Rebecca Cowart, Christy Bentley, Todd Bentley, and Ryan Bentley; Niece Lindsey (Everitt) Risinger; Nephews Joe D. Everitt and Jason Everitt; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and 15 great-grandkids. Mary Ann loved to celebrate life and she would want you at this time to celebrate the life she lived.
