Martha Lu Jones' Obituary
Martha Jones, 90, of Deer Park, Texas went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2022, due to complications of congenital heart disease.
Martha Lu Bradley was born on August 27, 1931, in Flora Illinois, to William and Hattie Bradley – the youngest of 13 siblings. Martha graduated from Flora Highschool in 1950. She had a beautiful voice and became well known state-wide for her singing, winning her recognition as the “Songbird of Illinois.”
Martha was always active in the Rebekahs, (Independent Order of Odd Fellows), and served as president of the New Mexico chapter.
Martha was a member of the Second Baptist church in Laporte, Texas, where she attended and sang frequently. She loved the church and the church loved her.
Martha was preceded in death by parents, William and Hattie Bradley, 1st husband Wendall Johnson, her youngest son Gaylon Johnson, 2nd husband Charles Jones, and all 12 siblings: Sisters Jewell, Anna, Jane, Edith, Edna, Myrtle, Joyce, Mary Jo, and Veneta Pearl; brothers David, Tommy, Billy, Bob, and Lee.
Martha is survived by her daughter Audrey, and son Jerry (wife Sheryl); her Grandchildren, John R. Kovacevic, Kimberly S. Kovacevic, William W. Johnson (B.J. & wife Kirstin), Rachel L. Johnson, Bradley P. Johnson, Christina Duarte (husband Desi Duarte); her Great Grandchildren, Haylee Johnson, Gage Johnson, Alexis Duarte, Kylie Duarte: and numerous Nieces and Nephews, and many, many friends.
