Marjorie Bonefas' Obituary
Marjorie Anne (Margie) Bonefas passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2024.
Margie was born on September 15, 1932 in Germantown, PA to Susan and Howard " Wes"
Wesner. In 1936, the family moved to Houston TX, traveling by train to Union Station (now home to her beloved Astros). She graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1947, then attended Sacred Heart Dominican College, where she received her BS in nursing in 1955. Her first job was at St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown Houston, and while working there she met husband Leo, whom she married in 1959. Margie was the amazing and dedicated mother of 7 children, supporting and nurturing them as mother, Cub Scout/Girl Scout leader, chauffeur, seamstress and more, also making time to volunteer at her church and continue to work as a nurse. After retiring from St. Joseph’s in 2005, she enjoyed many creative hobbies, and was passionate about researching her family history, culminating in a dream trip to Ireland in 2006. A train buff, many of her visits to children and relatives involved train excursions. Throughout her life, she was a devoted Houston Astros fan (and the Colt 45’s and Buffs before them).. She passed on her prodigious baseball knowledge and love of the game to her children and grandchildren and was never happier than when rooting for her team in the stands. Margie is predeceased by her parents, her brother Ralph, her husband Leo, and her granddaughter Maggie. She is survived by her sister Judy. She is survived by children Suzanne, Peggy, Edward, Mary, Joy, Amy, and Tom; grandchildren Heather, TJ, Kimberly, Adam, Sara, Ryan, Leo, Reily, and Dayna; and great-grandchildren Emma, Callee, Trey, Morgan, Hadley, and Marciano . Her service will take place Thursday 1/25 at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX. Viewing and rosary on Weds 1/24 at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 2 of Margie’s favorite organizations: Maggie’s Mutts Foundation (https://www.maggiesmutts.org/) and Reining Strength (https://www.reiningstrength.org/)
