Marion graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston and then attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. In 1989, she graduated from the University of Houston Clear Lake, with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
She worked as a secretary for several law firms in Pasadena, Texas. Later Marion taught elementary school in Houston ISD and Dickinson ISD, specializing in “English as a second language” instruction.
Marion loved books and reading. She introduced her three children to the public library, and to reading at an early age. She was the church librarian at First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Pasadena, Texas, under the Rector Ben Skyles.
Marion loved hiking and the outdoors. While living in Seabrook, Texas she was a faithful volunteer at Armand Bayou Nature Center, working for the director Mark Kramer. Marion also enjoyed playing tennis, and often competed in weekend tournaments.
Marion especially loved the beach; and greatly enjoyed regular visits to Galveston, and Anna Marie Island, FL with her close lifetime friends Bill and Shirley McCord.
Marion loved to travel; and visited many countries; including Mexico and Russia. She became a volunteer for the Peace Corps, with a stint living in very difficult conditions in the deep jungle of Ecuador.
Marion also loved art; especially contemporary art. She was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston; and visited often. She even learned to paint - greatly inspired by Bill McCord.
Her sense of fashion was certainly “interesting” and her clothing choices were often a source of amusement to her kids.
Marion lived in Port Aransas for several years where she enjoyed walks along the beach, bird watching along the shore and at the city Nature Center. She enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends. She was a fiercely independent woman; and sadly her health began to decline after being knocked from her chair by a wave on the Port Aransas beach around the time of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
