Mario "Popo" Martinez's Obituary
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, our beloved Mario “Popo” Martinez of Pasadena, TX took a one-way flight into the sky at the age of 53. Mario was born on February 2, 1970 in Houston, TX to Martin and Mary Martinez. He is survived by the love of his life and soul mate of 33 years, Yolanda Martinez. His favorite place in the world was by her side and he never wasted an opportunity to be with her. Mario had a joyous nature that was contagious, there was never a dull moment when he was around. He was a father and a friend to many; he leaves behind a legacy of endless laughter, kindness and generosity that will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him. To his loved ones, he was Popo: a lover of Pepsi, Rocky Road ice cream and his wife’s lasagna. Popo loved fishing, camping and shopping on Amazon but above all, he loved being with his friends and family. He had a heart of gold that knew no limits; he loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly.
Popo’s memory will live on for generations through the children and grandchildren he raised and loved: his daughter Betty, son-in-law Fortino and their 5 children; his daughter Gracie, son-in-law Candelario and their 3 children; his son JR, daughter-in-law Jacqueline and their 4 children; his daughter Iris, son-in-law Arturo and their 3 children; his daughter Matty, son-in-law Geoffrey and their 2 children; and his daughter Maryann, son-in-law JM and their 2 children. His departure has left a deafening silence where there once was laughter and nothing will ever fill that void. He taught us to live in the moment, to never take anything too seriously and to never take anything for granted. We will honor his memory through all the things he loved and when the pain becomes too much to bear, we will smile through the tears because we know he would have it no other way. This is not a goodbye but a “layyy- terrr!…. Know what I’m talking ‘bout?”
