Marie Carolyn Shepherd's Obituary
Marie C. Shepherd age 96, of Pearland Texas passed away on Wednesday November 8, 2023
at the home of her son David Shepherd, Duncanville Texas. Marie would have turned 97 the
following day on November the 9, but God decided she needed to celebrate her birthday with
Him. Up until two and half months before her death, Marie had lived independently at her home
in Pearland surrounded by great neighbors and many social and church friends.
Marie was born in Shreveport Louisiana the middle of three children, an older sister Jean and a
younger brother Jim. Marie’s mother one day looked at her high school credits and mentioned
she could graduate that summer if she went to summer school. Marie did this and graduated
one year early from high school. She met this sailor named Bob during a leave and he was the
uncle of Marie’s best friend. They got married in 1944. The Navy called and Bob went to New
York shipyards to set sail for Brazil. She followed him even though she was pregnant. Bob left
with his Navy unit and was shipped out to Brazil. Marie proceeded to find a job in NY.
She returned to Houston before giving birth to her first son William (Bill). During the early days
of her life, she gave birth to two additional sons, David, and Jerry. All three sons have
celebrated over 50 years of marriage.
Marie worked at a Law Firm in Houston those early days of raising children. When Bob was
transferred to Beaumont Texas by his company and Marie found herself with no job in a new
city, she went back to school and got her teaching certificate. Then years later got a School
Counseling Degree and ended her school career as a middle school counselor.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Shepherd, her sister Jean Fatton and
her brother Jim Flowers.She is survived by her sons, William (Bill) and wife, Sherry; David and
wife, Maggie; and Jerry and wife, Mary. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 9
great-grandchildren.
