Mrs Marie Elizabeth Bentley's Obituary
Bentley
Marie Elizabeth (Betsy) Bentley, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, has passed to a higher level after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Our sun rose on April 3, 1952, daughter of Ernest and Irene Lewis. That sun set on November 11, 2009. Betsy was a 16-year old junior at Jesse Jones High School when she met 17-year old senior Alan Bentley. After dating throughout the University of Houston, they married in 1972. They worked together to build his surveying company; she worked happily after children Patrick and Kelley were grown. She involved herself in youth affairs, school functions and community, always widening her circle of friends. One of her annual events was Mothers Day - if you were a mother, you were welcomed into the fold. She is pre-deceased by her father, Ernest and grandparents, Curtis and Anna Cotton and E.G. and Marie Lewis.
Her ability to rise above this final adversity with a positive attitude and with no complaints has provided a legacy of family and friend circle - our lives are richer because of her. Left to mourn her passing but to remember a lesson of love are her beloved husband Alan, son Patrick (Megan), daughter Kelley (Karim), grandchildren Paige and Nicholas Bentley and Ian and (as yet unborn) Sophie Aitboughima. Mother Irene Lewis, Mother-and father-in-law Don and Melba Bentley, brother David Bryan Lewis (Kristi), brother-in-law Don Rogers (Carol), sister-in-law Judy Williams (Mike), and a host of nephews, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to all those who worked so diligently on her behalf for her comfort at Houston Hospice, and those who had helped her at Baylor College of Medicine Breast Care Center. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, 77030 - be made.
