Mrs. Mariamma Thomas' Obituary
Mrs. Mariamma Thomas was born on October 12, 1938, as the youngest child of Mr. T.T. Varghese and Mrs. Mariamma Varghese of Thyparampil House, Narakathani near Vennikulam in Kerala State, India. She was fondly called Ponnamma from her childhood and she grew up with her four siblings (three brothers and one sister). She completed her high school education at the Vennikulam High School and then joined the Catherine Booth Nursing School in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu State. After she completed her nursing education, Mariamma worked at the Tata Hospital in Bombay for a while before joining the Al-Asharq General Hospital in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia in 1966. Mariamma married Mr. Thomas Joseph (Monichen) of Karippayil House in Perumthuruthy, Tiruvalla on January 15th, 1968. They had two children, Manoj and Mahesh. Mariamma and her husband continued to work in Saudi Arabia till 1987, before returning to the family home in Perumthuruthy, Tiruvalla. Mr. Thomas Joseph passed away in 1992 and Mariamma continued to raise her sons and guide her family in a God-loving and God-fearing environment by herself. After a 10-month battle with cancer, Mariamma was called to her Creator on September 11, 2008. Mariamma's older son, Manoj, daughter-in-law Merly, and grandchildren Sephra and Reuben are settled in Houston, TX. Her younger son, Mahesh, daughter-in-law Joanna, and grandson Alexander are settled in Leicester, UK. She is also survived by one brother and numerous family and friends. Mariamma always strived to live a life of faith and was a source of comfort, inspiration and friendship for all who knew her. She was blessed with a winning smile and a unique talent to make fast friends with anyone. Her presence will be greatly missed by her children, grand-children, family and friends. We console ourselves with the belief that she is among the living saints that worship at the throne of Almighty God in heaven. Her Lord has called out to His 'good and faithful servant' and has invited her to enter into the 'joy of her Lord.'
