Mrs. Maria De Jesus Salazar Ransom's Obituary
Maria De Jesus Salazar Ransom was called home on February 23, 2019 at the tender age of 76. She was born in Edcouch, Texas on October 7, 1942 to San Juana Cavazos Salazar and Luz Salazar, Sr.
After a long career as an elementary schoolteacher, Maria retired in 2010 to spend more time with her family, including frequent trips to California to visit her son and younger daughter.
Besides her joy for teaching children, Maria loved painting, yoga, and never missed the soccer and baseball games of her two grandchildren. In her younger days, she was quite the dancer and particularly enjoyed dancing the salsa.
More than anything, Maria enjoyed good company and simply catching up with friends, coworkers, or family over a cup of coffee.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Luz and San Juana Salazar, and her brother Carlos Salazar.
She will always be remembered by her loving children Art Ransom, Valerie Ransom, Sonya Sample; her son-in-law, Hugh; her grandchildren Ben and Emily Sample; as well as her siblings Fidela, Luz, Jr., Placido, Eliza, Alejos; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The Ransom family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday, February 28, for a visitation starting at 5:00 p.m until 9:00 p.m. at Southpark Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main Street in Pearland, TX. A celebration of her life will begin at 6:30 p.m. for anyone that would like to join the family to share stories. Interment will be on Friday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m. in Restwood Memorial Park, 1038 West Plantation Drive in Clute, TX.
