Mrs. Maria Meyer's Obituary
She was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She was a graduate of St. Augustine Parochial School and Laredo Junior College. She then later attended Texas State College of Women in Denton, Texas where she received her B.A. and M.A. Degrees in Education . She touched so many lives as an educator for 50 years both in Laredo ISD and Houston ISD. She taught high school, junior high and elementary grade levels. After she retired, she continued to teach the PreKindergarteners for approximately fifteen more years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She had a passion for gardening, flowers, music and arts and crafts. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years of marriage, Eugene L. Meyer; children; Cecilia and husband, Joey Guinn, Cynthia and husband, John Borden and Cathleen Freeman; grandchildren, Shay Costin, Ivory Guinn, Scott Davis, Renee Borden, John Borden IV, and Tiffany Freeman; great grandson, Cameron Davis; brother, Fernando Serna and sisters, Lucy Pena and Adelfa (Fita) Serna, along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Adelfa Pena Serna; father, Ildefonso Serna Sr.; brothers, Arturo Serna, Ricardo Serna, Ildefonso Serna Jr., and Jose Serna; sister, Teresa Serna Rangel and granddaughter, Natalie Davis. The family would like to thank Herman Memorial Hospice Program for all their helpful support.
