Maria De La Garza's Obituary
Maria Magdalena De La Garza, entered into God’s glory on April 25, 2017 at Harbor Hospice in Houston. She was born in Monterrey, NL Mexico July 22, 1936 to Abelino Rivera and Guadalupe Ruiz, and was the oldest of five sisters, to whom she was always close.
Maria met the love of her life, Salvador De La Garza at a church bazaar and dance. After a courtship of two years, they married on February 8, 1959 and embarked on their journey together raising two children. She loved dancing with her husband, a dance that lasted for 58 years. Their love was like no other, Salvador always dedicated “Mi Linda Esposa” (My Lovely Wife) to her.
Doña Magda, as she was best known by family and friends, loved cooking and baking, and no matter who went to her house, she always had a hot plate waiting for them. Gardening and creating floral arrangements were also some of her great passions.
Mom will be fondly remembered by her children, Maria Davila and Salvador De La Garza, and grandchildren: Jorge Davila, Giovanna Davila, Salvador De La Garza, Laura De La Garza, Daniella De La Garza, and Catherine Valdez. She is also survived by her son in-law, Jorge Davila and daughter in-law, Analuisa De La Garza.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 27, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with the rosary to be prayed at 6:30pm. The funeral service will take place Friday, April 28 at 11:00am, all to be held at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
