Marcelina Martinez's Obituary
Marcelina Carrisalez Martinez
January 12, 1941 - November 21, 2024
Marcelina, affectionately known as Lena, passed away at her home in Houston, Texas surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Lena was born on January 12, 1941 in the small town of Thomaston, Texas, where her journey began. She was the last surviving child, of Antonio Sr. and Juanita Perez Carrisalez. As the youngest of 10 children, Lena grew up in a bustling household filled with laughter and lively interactions.
She graduated from Cuero High School where she created countless memories that would stay with her forever. The best memory was marrying her high school sweetheart, her husband of 56 years, Tim Martinez. Together they had 3 children: Jo-Ann, Debbie and Michael.
Lena was preceded in death by her loving parents, her 7 brothers and 2 sisters and her husband.
Lena enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening. She could look at something and duplicate it with her own special touch. She loved to cook for her family, which they would enjoy every week at her house. This was her way of spending time with them. She had her special recipes that people would raved about— especially her chocolate cake (which others called her brownies).
One could catch her early in the morning or late afternoon working in her yard. She enjoyed trimming, mowing and watering her plants. She always loved to see her favorite bird-a cardinal. She believed God sent them as visitors from heaven.
Lena dedicated many years to the Pasadena Independent School District, ultimately retiring from her food service role at Frazier Elementary. Throughout her career, she made significant contributions to the school community positively impacting the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Lena will be greatly missed by her children: Jo-Ann (Jeff Maxwell), Debbie (Armando Vasquez), and Michael (Yvonne Martinez). Her grandchildren: Madelyn, Marissa, Angelica (Chris Wright), Jacob, Raven, numerous nieces and nephews. Her life was composed of love, family and the joys of everyday moments. She will be dearly missed by those who had the chance to know and love her.
