Manuela "Angelica" Alaniz's Obituary
Manuela “Angelica” Alaniz, beloved mother to Martha (husband Jose “Beto” Oliva†), Angelica
(husband Will Lopez), and Luisa (husband Ben Cornish), sister to Arturo Salas (wife Margarita
Salas) and Oralia Villalón (husband Alfonso Villalón†), grandmother to Angie (husband Joe
Garcia), Carlos II (wife Laura J.), Laura (husband Joseph Alvarado), and Ashley,
great-grandmother to Carlos III, Lorelei, and Angélica, passed away peacefully at home in
Houston, Texas at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents (Pedro and Jovita),
brother (Jose “Pepe”), sister (Delia), and now rests with her husband of 59 years, Rogelio.
She was born in El Cercado, Nuevo Leon in December of 1935 to Pedro and Jovita Salas. She
married Rogelio Alaniz on November 30, 1957. As a sister to four siblings and a mother of
three, family was of great importance to her, along with doing her best to take care of those
around her. Even through the challenges she faced while growing up, raising her daughters,
and starting a new life in Houston, she always made sure that those around her were fed,
welcomed, and cared for. Her attentiveness could be tasted in every dish prepared, every dress
stitched, and every flower that blossomed in her garden.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known as “Mami Nena”, and provided a
loving environment as the babysitter for all of the Alaniz cousins at one point or another. She
will be especially missed as a companion for watching the Price is Right, always having crispy
bacon as a side dish with all meals, challenging anyone’s palates with the spiciest of salsa
verde, her homemade candies, beautiful gardens, chats about her childhood, and her outgoing
spirit that always kept everyone entertained.
All services will take place at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St. in Pearland, 77581.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2
nd at 5 p.m., with Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Mass will
take place April 3rd at 10 a.m., followed by burial at 11 a.m. The family would like to thank South
Park Funeral Home for their accommodations and courtesy
