Mable Virginia Baird's Obituary
Mable Virginia Buchanan Baird was born in Gilmer, Texas, September 28. https://1931.She was a beloved wife,
mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. In the late 1930s, her family moved to Pasadena,
where she graduated from Pasadena High School in 1949. Soon after, she met Fred Baird, and married
on March 25, 1950.
Mable was a devoted housewife and seamstress for years. In the early 60s, Fred and Mable began
working a part-time job, selling concessions at the Colt Stadium. After the Astrodome was completed in
1965, they worked the concessions there as well. In 1971, she began working at Jacquie's Sportswear
doing alterations and sales. Mable worked many years as an election official for Harris Countv and later
became an election Precinct Judge for Harris County. After her husband passed away in 1979, she began
working at the very first Walmart in Pasadena. She continued working there in several different
capacities until she medically retired after suffering a stroke in 2009.
Mable was very proud of her family. She was a mother to Mike and Virginia (Moore), and mother-in-law
to Carol Lynn Baird and Nick Moore. Her six grandchildren, Adam Baird (Kristin), Dillon Moore (Karyn),
Evan Baird (Mandy), Priscilla Nugent (James), Oliver Moore (Kari), and Mason Moore (Ariel), added much
joy and happiness to her life. Mable was her families' biggest fan. She was there for all their sport
games and other important events in their lives. Additionally, she was blessed with seven great-
grandchildren, Abigail Moore, Andrew Moore, Savannah Baird, Leighton Moore, Ezekial Moore, Eli Baird,
and Calvin Moore. Mable is preceded in death by her husband Fred Baird, parents Alvin and Setella
Buchanan, and brother Leon Buchanan.
Palbearers include her grandsons, Adam and Evan Baird, Dillon, Mason, and Oliver Moore, and James
Nugent.
