Loyd Earl Hinkle of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the age of 88. Loyd was born on January 6, 1921 in Blocker, OK., to King A. and Katie Bell Lane Hinkle and was the oldest of nine children. Loyd enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp, now known as the U.S. Air Force, on May 22, 1941 and served his country in the Italian and North African theaters, where he rose to the rank of Corporal. While stationed at Harding Army Air Field in Baton Rouge, LA., he met and married Beatrice Hull. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on October 2nd. After Loyd's discharge on August 29, 1945, he traveled to Houston to join Beatrice where she had made a home for them while he was serving overseas. He began working on September 19, 1945 for what is now AK Steel and retired as a metallurgical Chemist on July 31, 1982. Loyd leaves to survive him, his wife Beatrice, his daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Joe Ickes, all of Houston. He is also survived by brothers and sister-in-laws, who called him Earl., Curt and Barbara of Umatilla, Oregon, Lester and Marie of San Marcos, TX., Stanley and Retha of Caldwell, Idaho and Elene of Nampa, Idaho, and numerous nephews and nieces. Loyd is predeceased by son, Dale, brothers, Charles, Clyde and Buddy, and sisters, Elizabeth and Ruby. Loyd was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, last attending the Watters Road Congregation, Pasadena, TX, until Alzheimer's disease took away his memory. Viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the South Park Funeral Home Chapel, Pearland, TX. Services will be officiated by Barry Day, preaching minister for the Watters Road Church of Christ, at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2009. Interment will be in South Park Cemetery.
