Mr. Louis Martin Pampell's Obituary
Louis Martin Pampell, a long-time resident of Houston, passed away on the afternoon of August 30th, 2018 at Bayshore Medical Center at the age of 93.
Born on February 21,1925 in Fedor, Texas, Louis was a twin and the sixth of eight children of Emma Teresa Matthijetz and Gustav Herman Pampell. He married Dorothy Ann Krenek on June 1, 1947 when they eloped, and were evermore known as “Kid & Dottie”. Louis is survived by his sons and their wives: Adrian & Tracey Pampell and Keith & Patty Pampell, and his daughter, Darlene Bryan; his grandchildren: Brandon Pampell, Jason Pampell, Crissy (and Eric) Beris, Kathy Pampell, Bryan (and Jessica) Pampell, Mark Pampell, Melissa Pampell, Lorenzo Pampell, Tessini Bryan, Tristen Bryan, and Kohner Bryan; and his great-grandchildren, Landyn Pampell, Rachel Beris, and Jacob Beris. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Emma Pampell, his wife Dorothy Ann Pampell, and his daughter, Venita Ann Pampell.
Louis began working at a very young age to help his mother provide for their family. At the age of 16, he began his career in construction by moving to Houston and learning the drywall business from his relatives there. He signed up for the army, following in the footsteps of his three older brothers to proudly serve in WWII. He was stationed in Hawaii following Pearl Harbor, and served as a truck driver, transporting dignitaries and soldiers around the island. It is here that he first developed a love for the ocean. He was honorably discharged and returned to Houston to start his own company, Dime Box Drywall, which he successfully ran for over 40 years with his wife, Dorothy. Louis was active in his church and community and served as an elder for many decades at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. He was also a little league manager for many years for his boys, and remained very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Louis loved salt water fishing and entertaining his family and friends at their beach house in Port Bolivar. He loved a good party and hosted an annual Christmas party, at his company with dancing, beer, and barbeque. He rarely missed a chance to attend family reunions and other family gatherings, including weddings for which he notoriously led many wedding marches along with his wife, Dorothy. He also took joy in traveling, hunting, and was no stranger to the casinos in Lake Charles. He juiced each morning for his family and exercised daily because he was committed to “learning to like” those things that were good for him, and would make him better. He loved to tell a joke with a twinkle in his eye, and positivity and warmth radiated all that he did. Louis was extremely strong, insightful, and devoted to Jesus and his life reflected that. A driven man, he worked tirelessly to ensure that his family was taken care of. His compassion and thoughtfulness touched the lives all those who surrounded him, and he would sacrifice anything for those he loved. He celebrated 69 years of marriage with his wife, Dorothy, and took immense pride in being with the woman he loved for so many years.
Visitation with be held on Wednesday, September 5th, from 5-8 pm at Southpark Funeral Home, 1310 N Main St, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral will take place on Thursday, September 6th at 11:00 am at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 10310 Scarsdale Blvd., Houston, Texas 77089.
