Mrs. Lou Ellen Magers' Obituary
Lou Ellen Neighbors Magers passed from this life on February 2nd, 2010 at the age of 77. She was born in Houston, Texas to Mr. James Louis and Mrs. Georgie Marie Neighbors. Lou Ellen is survived by her only sibling, James L. "Bubba" Neighbors Jr. and his wife Patsy, who reside in Pearland. Lou Ellen was the proud mother of three boys, Ottis Wilton "Trey" Bateman III and his wife Jan, Dwight Bateman and his wife Leah, and James Bateman and his wife Jan. Sherrie Bateman Smith, "The Boy's" sister, held a special place in her heart. Lou Ellen was known as "Granny" to her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as all of those she came across. Our Granny had a gregarious personality, never met a stranger, and as one who loved her was quoted as saying, "She had an open heart, was open minded, and accepted people as they were."
She was an avid reader, adored her pets, enjoyed bowling, loved to garden and traveled the world with her husband of 42 years, Ray, who worked in the oil industry. Her fondest stories were of the many years she spent living abroad in such countries as Algeria, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. From teaching her grandchildren how to dance to helping them learn to tie their shoes, our Granny held a pivotal role in their upbringing. She was always in the kitchen satisfying the pickiest of taste buds. Christmas will never be the same without her famous Eggnog or her Baked Alaska. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Will Bateman, Chad Bateman, Craig Bateman, Eric Bateman, Chip Bateman, and John Gartrell. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Ingrando, Trace Height and Robert Jensen. Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Robles Family, Rosa, Maria and Armando for their devotion; Lucy and Rommel for their tender care during her final hours along with the Neurological team at St. Luke's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
