Mrs. Lillian C. McDermott's Obituary
Lillian C. McDermott, born October 6th, 1915 in Williamsburg, KY, to Sol Cox and Mae Ellis Cox, entered into rest May 24th, 2009 in Houston, TX. She graduated from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY in an era that an emphasis was not placed on education for females. Lillian was a teacher for grades 1st through 8th all at the same time in a single room school house. Her family moved from Lexington, KY in 1954 to Houston, TX to be closer to the medical center so that one of her sons could get better care for polio. Lillian retired after many year of service from the U.S. post office Gulfgate location. After her retirement she enjoyed china painting and was an avid bird watcher and a member of the Bird Watchers Society. She was very active at the Southeast Church of Christ.
Lillian is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman A. Rowland, Sr., as he was shot down during war time over Austria in 1944; son, Herman A. Rowland, Jr. in 1976, and her second husband Clarence McDermott. She is survived by her son, W.W. Rowland; grandsons, Justin Lee Rowland and Randall Lee Rowland; great grandchildren, Josh Rowland, Jason Rowland, and Hannah Rowland; sister, Nola Worley; and niece and nephew, Jessie Mae Martin of Bowling Green, KY and Harold Worley of Williamsburg, KY. The family would like to especially thank Lillian's caregiver Elizabeth Sinambela for her compassionate care she gave, which made Lillian's last 2 year's much more enjoyable. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, May 26th, 2009, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St. in Pearland, TX. A service celebrating Lillian's life will be held Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donation be made to the Media Children's Home, 21300 State Hwy. 16 North Median, TX 78055 830-589-2871, www.medinachildrenshome.com, in Lillian's name.
