Mrs. Lena Leota Woodrow's Obituary
Lena Leota Woodrow, age 97, and resident of Pearland, Texas passed away on June 28, 2013. Lena was active until her last few days and passed peacefully.
Lena was born September 19, 1915 on her family farm in Yoakum, Texas to Henrietta and Edward Chandler. Lena's three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. Lena was married to Beverly Joseph Woodrow, of Franklin Louisiana, on June 10, 1935 in Houston, Texas. Beverly, fondly referred to as Woody by many, and Lena owned and operated the popular Ranch House Restaurant on Telephone Road from 1948 to 1969. Lena wore many hats at the Ranch House including cashier and hostess. After retirement, they moved from their home of 30 years in the Garden Villas subdivision of Houston, Texas to Nassau Bay, Texas before finally settling in Pearland, Texas in 1979.
Lena was an excellent homemaker and frequently made clothes, quilts, and other gifts for her family, friends, and neighbors. She was also active in the Pearland division of the Brazoria County Extension Homemaker's Club. She won many ribbons for quilting, baking, and crafts. She also volunteered monthly at Windsong Village Convalescent Center helping residents celebrate birthdays, some of whom were actually younger than her. Lena enjoyed watching Astros baseball, All My Children, and Wheel of Fortune. She was a member of Pearland United Methodist Church. She was a much-loved mother to her daughter Beverly Jo Woodrow Noble, her son in law Jim Noble and her stepdaughter Doris Robertson. Her beloved husband "Woody" and her stepdaughter Doris preceded Lena in death. Five grandchildren, Michelle Palmer Mann, Jennifer Palmer Valderas, Darlene Robertson, Helena Robertson, and Donald Robertson, survive her. Four grandchildren also preceded her in death: James Robertson, Joseph Robertson, Beverly (Chuck) Robertson, and Robbie (Penny) Steno. Eight great grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren, and many loving friends also survive her. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 in the chapel of South Park Funeral Home at 1310 N Main St, Pearland, Texas. Visitation will take place before the funeral from 1:00 till 3:00 also at South Park Pearland. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care that Lena received from her granddaughter, Darlene Roberson, for the past 3 years and also from Mary Parmer for four prior years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lena's memory may be made to The American Heart Association: www.heart.org. Lena was a gift to our family and will be missed.
