Lena Irene Powell's Obituary
Lena Irene Wright Adams Powell, age 86, peacefully entered Heaven on September 7, 2024 in the presence of loving family. She was born on February 15, 1938 in Urichsville, Ohio, the daughter of William Newton Wright III and Caroline Hicks Wright.
Lena spent many happy years with her husband Rex Brinson Adams whom she was married to for 14 years, living in Pasadena, TX and Houston, TX until his passing in 1970. She was later happily married to Calvin Henry Powell for 32 years and lived in Houston, TX and Webster, TX. Hurricane Harvey brought an end to her tenure in Webster in 2017 and she relocated to Liberty Hill, TX where she spent the last 7 years living in her cottage behind the home of her daughter Lisa and husband Rusty.
Her pride and joy were her four children, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Her greatest joy was spending laughter-filled time with all of them. Her legacy of love, kindness, compassion and yes, spoiling, will live on in them. She also treasured many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She is survived by her siblings Raymond Wright (Merle) and Edna Wright Hatcher (Ralph), her children Lisa Adams Conley (Rusty), Rex Rayford Adams (Laura), Kimberly Adams Presswood (Cliff) and Keith Lewis Adams (Karen), her grandchildren Kara Taylor (Steven), Kacey Brewer (David), Ford Adams, Emily Adams, Christopher Blakley, Stephanie Holt (Alix Lopez), William Holt, Kyle Adams (Alysha) and Kevin Adams (Holly), and her great-grandchildren Shepherd, Parker, Brooks, Jett, Emma, Derrick, Logan, Myles, Oliver, Cooper, Rylie, Max, Anna and Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her siblings Eugene Wright, William Wright, Elizabeth Wright Stout, Thelma Wright Lewis, John Wright and her granddaughter Jenny Mae Adams.
In addition to her dazzling smile and colorful wit, Lena will be remembered for her great empathy and love for those in need. She provided compassionate care to loved ones and was an inspiration to others. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Silverado Austin Hospice who took such good care of her.
A remembrance service will be held on October 12, 2024 at 1pm at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N. Main St., Pearland, TX 77581 with graveside services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to either Silverado Austin Hospice (www.Silverado.com/foundation) in Austin, TX or Hope Cancer Retreat (www.hopecancerretreat.com) in Splendora, TX.
She will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts.
