Mrs. Lena Clara Hewitt's Obituary
HEWITT
Lena was born on July 30, 1909, in Vidor, Texas of German-descent parents Gustav and Ernstine Mann. She passed away on August 5 with many of three generations of her descendants present. Lena grew up in the Giddings area, first on a farm with her five brothers and sisters that lived to become adults, and later working in Giddings and Austin. She married James N. Hewitt in 1938 while he was attending Texas A & M. The two of them lived in Bryan College Station while James finished his degree and moved to Houston to continue their lives together. Lester was born in 1942 and Marilynn in 1946. James passed away in 1977 and Marilynn followed in 1978. Lena continued to raise Marilynn's children Dana and Thomas to adult hood. Known by all as Grandma, she and Evelyn Lamping were the family matriarchs for many years. She survived all of her brothers and sisters and passed away just after her 99th birthday.
Grandma is survived by Lester and his wife Taffy, and, in addition to Thomas and Dana, other grandchildren Chris and wife Heather, Lannie and husband Chris Cole, and Brady and wife Annie. Her great grandchildren are Field and Sadie Hewitt, Cassidy and Courtney Cole, Zachary, Cody and Bryce McGrath, and Thomas's children Michael and Ashley. St. Mark was faithful to her throughout her years, and is especially thanked by her family. Donations can be made out to St. Mark for its charity work in lieu of flowers. I'll miss you Mom.
