Lawrence A. Baker's Obituary
Lawrence “Lonny” Baker, 78, of Pearland, passed away on September 21st, 2022, of leukemia.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 25th, 2022 at South Park Funeral Home. Rabbi Kenny Weiss of Houston Hillel will officiate.
Lonny was born in New York City on July 31st, 1944. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and continued on to receive Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Pratt Institute.
Lonny was happily married to Phyllis Baker for 55 years. They met at a fraternity party, later married, and raised a loving family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Tampa Bay, Florida. They eventually moved to Pearland, Texas in order to be closer to family.
Lonny had a fruitful career as a licensed Professional Engineer, working for over 37 years. In retirement, he enjoyed sailing, traveling, doting upon his beloved grandchildren, and bragging about his children. Among many other adventures, he helmed his yacht from Florida to Grenada, just North of Venezuela, a trip of four months each way.
Lonny is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his grandchildren, Heather Touby, Jack Touby, Zachary Baker and Max Baker, his brother, Robert Baker, and his daughter, Keri Touby and her husband, Mark Touby, his son Adam Baker and his wife Honorable Judge Jennifer Baker. Lonny is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Baker, his father Abraham Baker, and his brother, Norman Baker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Brooklyn Technical High School, Pratt Institute, Deer Valley YMCA Family Camp, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
