Laura Guthrie's Obituary
Laura Guthrie peacefully passed away on March 4, 2026 at the age of 60 after a long six year battle with cancer. She was born on April 10, 1965 in Brownsville, Texas, her parents who she loved dearly were Jose Raymundo Garza and Francisca Medrano Garza.
Laura loved her family more than words could describe and she was an amazing mother daughter, friend and partner to have. She was a jack of all trades and there really wasn’t anything that she couldn’t do. Her creativity left people in awe and her caring attitude made people comfortable because they knew she was the person you could depend on always.
Laura loved baseball and she was the Astros number one fan.
Laura graduated college in 1985 from the university of Houston Main Campus with a degree in architectural design. Laura also was a special education teacher for over 10 years and touched the lives of so many. Her last occupation she was a certified chef and she was dedicated and had a passion for her work, which made her food taste even better. It was made to perfection with love sprinkled on top.
She was a gifted and remarkable person, no task was too big for her to handle. Her willingness to be a helping hand was simply a part of who she was.
Laura leaves behind her partner and best friend Joe W Rutherford. And although she was no longer married, her ex-husband, William Gregory Guthrie and her remained friends and had a good relationship. Her daughter Jaqueline Celicia Guthrie, Laura, Caitlin Guthrie, and Allison Celeste Guthrie. Her nephew whom she loved and considered as a son Uriel Garza. A loving stepdaughter, Shanna Rutherford and brothers Cody and Mason Rutherford.
Her bloodline is continued through her loved and cherished grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Guthrie and Christian Raymundo Guthrie.
Laura is survived by her three brothers Jose R. Garza, Raul Garza and Roberto Garza. Her sister-in-law Marina Olga Guzman and Mini Johana Velez. And godson Raul Alberto Garza.
Daughter-in-law, Amy Garza and children, Julian Uriel Garza, Jaden Alexander Garza and Dahlia Analise Garza.
Laura was a fighter and she loved life, her faith in God gave people hope because she was such an uplifting and positive person to be around. She was the life of the party and a mother to everyone who needed it. She will forever and always be dearly missed. Gone but never forgotten.
