Kirk Wayne Harper's Obituary
Kirk Wayne Harper was born in Freeport, Texas to Otis Harper and the late Bonnie Johnson. Kirk accepted Christ at an early age, joining St. John Baptist Church in Houston on West Gray Street.
Kirk grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated in 1967, from Jack Yates High School where he played football and was a member of the Bowling club. He attended college at University of North Texas and at Texas Southern University. In 1969, Kirk enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years as a military security officer. He served his country in both Italy and Thailand. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Houston where he was employed by Schlumberger Well Service for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2003.
On February 17, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart Ginger Boyd. Of that marriage one child was born, Monique Harper Landor (Octave).
Kirk was full of life and had a passion for bowling. He was a competitive and serious bowler and was fondly called “Hollywood” in the bowling community. During the early 70’s Kirk was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association. He bowled in many leagues and tournaments throughout Texas and the United States earning several rings for bowling perfect 300 games. Kirk was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed watching professional and college football, basketball and professional car racing. Kirk had a love for cooking and spent many hours watching the Food Network.
Kirk was called to eternal rest on January 2, 2018. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Bonnie Johnson; and leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 44 years, Ginger Boyd Harper; his father Otis Harper; one daughter, Monique Landor (Octave), two grandchildren, Olivia and Maya; three sisters, Bonnie Ruth (Dan), Yvonne and Ulonda; two brothers, Gregory and Kenneth; three aunts, Gloria; Carolyn (Charles) and Linda; his mother-in-law, Thirkield Thomas and his four-legged best friend, “Charlie Murphy”. Kirk also leaves nephews, nieces, cousins and friends (especially those from his bowling community).
Arrangements are being entrusted to South Park Funeral Home in Pearland Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at South Park Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 3PM.
