IN LOVING MEMORY OF Mr. ANTHONY LÊ KHỞI December 10, 1954 – February 27, 2026 A Life Remembered Musician Anthony Lê Khởi was born on December 10, 1954, in the village of Xâm Boồ, a peaceful rural community located about seven kilometers from Hải Phò ng in northern Vietnam. Following the division of Vietnam after the 1954 Geneva Accords, his family migrated to South Vietnam and resettled in Hải Xuân Parish, a Catholic community established by northern migrants. The parish lay along coconut-lined shores near the coastal city of Vũ ng Tàu—then known as Cap Saint Jacques. As a child, Khởi was known for his bright mind, warm personality, and gentle charm. Recognizing his promise, the parish priest encouraged him to pursue his education at the Đoồng Cô ng Seminary. His years there helped shape his spiritual formation, his sense of community life, and especially his deep love for music. In 1975, amid the wave of Vietnamese refugees seeking freedom, Mr. Khởi came to the United States and settled in Kansas City, Kansas, where he pursued studies in electrical engineering. In 1980, he moved to Houston, Texas, where he began working for Input/Output as a Quality Assurance Engineer. In 1995 he joined Geospace Technologies as a Quality Sustaining Engineer, serving faithfully until his retirement in 2016. Outside of his professional life, Mr. Khởi devoted much of his time to music and community activities. He irst joined the band Mây Hồng, performing as lead guitarist in a café in downtown Houston. During those years he also participated in the Lạc Việt cultural and social organization. Later, together with friends Nguyeễn Trọng Hiệp and the late Đinh Văn Thaắng, he helped form the band The White Shadow, alongside Hoàng Quı́ Lâm and famous drummer Nguyeễn Hù ng. The band became well known and beloved within the Houston Vietnamese community, with Mr. Khởi serving as its bass guitarist. After several memorable years, the band eventually disbanded as family responsibilities led its members in different directions. He was married in 1981 and later divorced. Mr. Khởi had two children, Kevin Khoa (deceased) and his daughter Nancy Vy. In retirement, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially playing tennis and spending peaceful hours ishing. At the age of seventy, while attending a gathering of the Vietnamese Teacher’s Association of Houston, he met Ms. Lưu Thanh Nga, the daughter of a distinguished of icer of the Vỏ BịĐà Lạt Military Academy & Chairman of Saigon City Council; Ms. Thanh Nga is also the spiritual Goddaughter of the late First Lady of the Republic of Vietnam, Mrs. Nguyeễn Văn Thiệu. After a period of friendship and courtship, he respectfully asked her father, Mr. Lưu Vı̃nh Lữ, for permission for them to marry. Anthony Lê Khởi and Lưu Thanh Nga were united in marriage during a solemn wedding Mass at the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church, blessed by Fr. John Kha Tran and Deacon Nguyen Manh San, followed by an elegant and joyful celebration surrounded by family and friends. Though their time together was far too brief, they shared two precious years of love, happiness and companionship. Mr. LêKhởi fell seriously ill in December of 2025 and peacefully passed away in the arms of his loving wife on February 27, 2026. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of music, his dedication to family, and GOD, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life. Mr. Lê Khởi was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother and his beloved son. He is survived by his wife, 2 of his sisters and their families, 1 brother and his family, the children and grandchildren of the deceased brother and sisters, his daughter Nancy, his step children and 3 grand children. “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.” Forever in our hearts
