Mrs. Juliana Yabut Macalino's Obituary
Juliana Yabut Macalino, 92 died 22nd of August at her son’s home in Pearland. She had a big fall at her home in the Philippines in June 8, 2017. Due to the frailty of her health, surgery was not an option. She remained wheelchair bound for a year and these past six was bedbound. Her son and his wife went back and forth four times last year to visit her in the Philippines to assess living conditions. It was Juliana’s desire to stay with her son’s family in Houston for what is left of her life. On October 22 of 2017, Juliana arrived in Houston without difficulty of proving her permanent residence status at the Port of Entry here in Houston. Her Memorial Mass will be at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Manvel, Texas at 12’oclock noon.
Mrs. Macalino was born on January 8, 1926 in Pampanga, Philippines. She was married to Edilberto Macalino for 52 years. She gained a Bachelor of Arts in Education and later acquired Masteral Degree in Public and Catholic Education. She retired after forty years as a teacher and later principal in Public School in 1991 at 65 years old. For the next 10 years after retiring from Public Education, she became the principal of a newly opened, St. Nicholas Catholic School in Macabebe, Pampanga, Philippines. At the age of 75, she continued to teach Catechism to young children on her free time until age 90 years old.
Mrs. Macalino was heavily involved in local charitable institutions who provided scholarships to deprived children and was strongly active in religious organization such as Catholic Women’s League who solely propagated devotions to Our Blessed Mother through Community Prayer Groups, Novena, and Celebration of Feasts and Devotions. She is well known as ” Madam “ who walked through the streets of her town and nearby towns soliciting money for the poor and funds to commemorate Feasts of Our Blessed and Patron saints.
She is survived by her son Rodel, daughter in law Asuncion, and grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathan, and Timothy who took care of her in their own home with much love, respect, and joined her in prayer and songs of praises regularly while laid in bed waiting for God’s call. Her family is consoled that as it is very well known of being a Marianist, the day of her death is the Feast of the Queenship of Our Blessed Mother and today, the available date chosen by the church for her Memorial Mass it being the Nativity of Our Blessed Mother. To the faithful, we are comforted that this is the day of a big celebration of our mission accomplished thereby Thanksgiving with Peace in our Hearts that our “Ima “ as we call her a Word of Endearment is with our Savior with the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.
“ Have you strayed from the path leading to heaven? Then call on Mary, for her Her Name means Star of the Sea, the North Star which guides the ships of our souls during the voyage of this life, “ and she will guide you to the harbor and eternal salvation.”
