Joyful Lee Benton's Obituary
Joyful Lee (Spurlock) Benton passed away peacefully at her home in Pearland, Texas on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jewell Emily (Russell) and Basil Washington ‘Slim’ Spurlock and her Grandson, Clayton Lee Ehlinger.
Joyful is survived by her sister, Melva Sue (Carl) Smith, her husband, Jerry Pat Benton, her children, Leslie Ann Thompson, Kelly Sue (Gary) Ehlinger, Terri Lynne (Steve) Thaler, Jay Patrick (Laura) Benton, her grandchildren: Chad (Brooke) Ehlinger, Jesse and Carla Ehlinger, Amanda and Andrew Thompson, Samuel and Daniel Stephan, Megan (Bobby) Madget, Stephen and Ian Glenn, Amber and Kevin Thaler and Katrina and Emily Benton and a great-grandchild, Rafe Michael Madget, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Joy grew up in West Texas and graduated from McCamey High School then attended college at San Angelo, Texas. She always loved being in the band (and a Rammette at San Angelo) and any kind of music—a love she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
She married Jerry Pat Benton in 1957 in Kermit, Texas and spent an ‘oil patch’ life moving all over the country and living in Kuwait. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November.
Always beautiful, inside and out, her name said it all. She was known by all for her kindness, warmth, loving nature and a wonderful sense of humor. She was incredibly strong of spirit and Faith and ‘texas grit’ of soul. She loved her extended family without measure and will be forever missed. She brought us joy, always.
